Ben, Betty and Kiki Van der Burg came to SF today to purchase all the really, really inexpensive goods in America. The Euro is so strong, Ben bought 3 $2,000 suits on Rodeo drive when visiting LA earlier this week (actually the suits were discounted by 70%, but still $600 each, but significantly less in terms of the Euro. Alyssa and Olivia played with Kiki every chance they could get.... They brought a nice present for Alyssa's Birthday...and we had a really nice Shabu Shabu dinner with very nice wine that they picked up in Carmel.
We also talked politics - the Europeans love Obama and believe he's the one that can help us get back on the right track...
We met Ben and family while I was working for Vodafone Japan from 2003 to 2005. Ben was one of my closest (probably the closest)friends in Japan.

Dear Alyssa, Sabina, Chris and Olivia,
We
had a great evening last night. Driving from down town up the hills to
Piedmont. Parking our rented car on the wrong site of the street. The
amazing view from your lovely house. The smell of the new painted
walls, mixed with the smell off the delicious Shabu Shabu. The wine,
the conversations. We enjoyed it a lot, thanks for inviting us, in fact
we invited ourselves... Because we had such a great memories of you
all...
After the two parties you had yesterday, you had still the
energy and the kindness to have us over, twice, because we forgot our
photo camera in the end and had to drive back.
When we are in the
Netherlands we will send you the pictures from Japan where you are
playing Singstar on the Playstation (they are good :-)
We hope to see you soon.
Betty, Kiki, Ben
ps. we hope Obama brings you good luck in the US
